Choose one single strong shade such as pine green, gold, or if you want to add a touch of modernity, copper with notes of red.
I’d advise you to avoid cold colours. Colour can be provided by glasses in warm shades. Dare to choose glasses in several colours and shapes, but always choose transparent ones. The glasses will add a festive note!
You can use plain crockery, without a pattern with a gold feature. Assemble a pretty pile with three plates and one small plate with three pieces of bread per person; nut bread, olive bread and thyme bread for example, alongside.
Lay your table with a beautiful white or gold tablecloth, in natural linen if possible. You can add place mats, also in gold, or imitation leather such as lizard, crocodile or foal. If you put place mats on the table, you don’t need to have presentation plates.
Surprise! For a little surprise, place small gifts on each plate that everyone can open when they sit at the table. For example, costume jewellery, or funny accessories that you can put on straight away.
For the centre of the table, call upon your florist and favour two or three smaller bouquets rather than one tall one. That way all your guests will be able to see each other! You can also add golden branches, or holly and mistletoe with gold dust.
Your warm atmosphere and subdued lighting will be a success with candles or tea lights. Again I suggest you use lots of small ones, so as not to restrict your view.
Don’t forget to use scents which will put everyone at ease. You can choose jasmine, pine, roses, hortensias, sweet peas etc
A musical tip: I like putting something really stirring on, like Nabucco, to solemnise the moment.
And to round things off beautifully, choose a great outfit! I suggest you wear something your feel good in, black gold, spangly, glitter. It’s time to be daring!
We wish you a wonderful festive season!
